Elderton Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz
Origin: Australia
Terroir: Barossa Valley
Varietal: Shiraz
Our Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz comes from two vineyards, both of which are quite unique in their environment. The Greenock portion was planted in 1980 and is a very different clone to other Shiraz in the area. It ripens earlier and retains a freshness, whilst developing an assertive tannin which balances the new French oak it spends a year in post-fermentation. Our 1954 planted Shiraz in Nuriootpa brings an amazing perfume of blueberry and cassis with a vibrant tannin structure. Post-fermentation, with an element of whole bunch inclusion, these new wines are pressed to allow the last part of fermentation in oak, ensuring integration. In turn the wine remains on lees for an extended time to soften tannins whilst building mid-palate texture.
