In the early 1970s legendary winemaker Max Schubert began the quest for a range of white wines that would equal the already famous red wines of Penfolds. One of the first wines from these trials was named Autumn Riesling. Some of Penfolds’ finest riesling parcels in the early 1970s were bottled under this label and the Koonunga Hill Autumn Riesling acknowledges the original 1972 vintage by closely adhering to the original packaging with a fitting 'retro' label.
Country: Australia
Type: White Wine
ABV:
12%
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Very pale straw with lime green hues.
Nose: Highly aromatic with fresh citrus at the forefront – mandarin and lime juice alongside pretty floral notes of almond blossom, white flowers, and Gardenia. Very fresh!
Palate: Citrus ( muddled lime / Mojito ) carries through to the palate amid delicate fresh ginger and a lovely typical Eden Valley talcy/quartz-like mineral acid structure. A wine with a wonderful length of flavor enjoyable now and over the next 2 years.
Food Pairing: Pork, Shellfish, Poultry, Appetizers and Snacks, Cured Meat
Storage Instructions:
The perfect conditions for proper storage exist in a wine cellar - a cool, dark place kept at a constant temperature of 50-55°F (13°C) with slightly angled shelves and only other wines as neighbors. Since most of us can't do this, just remember that the best storage is under cool, dark, and somewhat humid conditions.
